Forum announcement - 21 August 2018 - It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of a great of the AusRotary community, Darren Baker aka "Dazz". Since the very beginning, Dazz has been one of the giants of AusRotary, contributing his vast technical and model knowledge, as well as volunteering his time as a moderator. Right up to very recently he continued to provide race reports, results and photos of RX-2s from historic racing meets, even as his health made it very difficult to do so. Should you wish to add you own comments in honour of Dazz, please visit here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=250953

AUSROTARY TRACK DAYS?

#1 Post by MIK20B » Thu Apr 26, 2018 11:04 am

I remember years ago we used to put the occasional track day on, i even attended one at Wakefield...
Is this not done anymore?
No interest? No one can be bothered? Too many other people doing it?

Unfortunately, it has been a while since there have been AusRotary track days or events. I put this down to the profileration of so many smaller clubs, general local cars & coffee groups and Facebook pages. Part of this is also due to the historic registration schemes that are now available. This has meant formal clubs set up to cater for historic registration set up meets of their own.

In NSW, there used to be the RENEW (Rotary Enthusiasts of New South Wales), which essentially sprang out of AusRotary. This was a CAMS affiliated club and put on regular track days. But I believe RENEW is now defunct. It's website stopped updating events in around 2015 and in mid 2017 was replaced with a brief "thank you" message for everyone's past support: https://web.archive.org/web/20170624032 ... iasts.com/ :(

I'm sure there are NSW based clubs that put on rotary focused track days, but it's very sad that social media has defragmented so many of the great clubs that brought people together for so many years.

i'd be keen for a track day in NSW for sure.

i think SMSP is locked down by Driving Solutions and it's $375 for a morning or afternoon. i've done one of their noob days in the subaru..

Wakefield Park is up to $100 cheaper. i'll be headed there with the WRX club for their 'speed school' in early June.

but i'd really like to punt the mazda around with some similar power mazdas...

here we go, Wakefield Park - Speed off the Streets - https://www.wakefieldpark.com.au/drive/ ... f-streets/

$150 for a weekday, $185 weekends. just need a cams l2s, no requirements except form and $135.

9am to 4pm, 3 vehicle categories each goes out for 20mins.

that's seven 20 minute sessions.

for my car that should allow enough laps to require a tow truck to get home.

This was taken from their site,

All participants in Speed off the Streets days must wear wrist-to-neck-to-ankle fire resistant clothing and a helmet that meets Australian Standard 1698 or higher.

i assume that just means long sleeves and long pants and a current Australian 'tick' helmet?

is a 'tick' helmet a motorcycle helmet? if yes, then it may not be up to the required standard.. i think the big difference is fire resistance.

i'm up for a day at Wakefield, weekday or weekend.

weekdays might be fewer cars but probably more faster, experienced drivers as a rate of the total numbers... good if you're fast, too.

we're in the ideal months for heading out there i.e. colder.

I'd be keen for a QLD Raceway or Morgan Park track day if there's enough people in QLD? Skid Control run a great day at Morgan park or you can book out one of the sprint sessions at QR specifically for your group @ $140 half day

I'd love to do wakefield/SMSP eventually but I need a trailer and tow car first! hahaha not sure the RX7 would make the trip down south

I'd be interested for Wakefield, it would be nice to have a few rotary's out at the same time. If I have a couple of weeks notice of a gathering I'll bring the RX7 S1 tarmac rally car for some wheel time.
