End Float Issue - Variation of Approx 0.03mm

Hi I have just assembled a old school 13b block and when I check end float I get a variation of approx 0.03mm depending on the crank rotated position. So between 0.04 to 0.07 or with a larger spacer 0.06 to 0.09 etc.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before, what is the cause and should I be concerned or just roll with it?

I'm thinking crank slightly bent?

Although I did check crank run out before assembling and there was absolutely none that I could see.

Skimmed plates were used...Is it possible they are not perfectly flat?

I did notice there was a very very small bit of gasket residue that was missed on the front plate timing cover flange after they came back from the machine shop.

I changed out entire front stack for another one I had but made no difference.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Would have to be two parts skew to get phased difference.

i would think on money with front plate linebore issue . run with it

Thanks guys, yeah I actually think it might the center plate bore. It had a dint in on the face in close to the edge that had pushed some of the metal into the bore. I was going to clean it up completely forgot.

i cant see that making a float issue . if the bump in crank clear it . it is OK

on the front plate however it is important the front is cleaned to get it flat on the mag table
any deflection off the table will put the stat at angle to the bore line
the endfloat gear is aligned off that stat and has several rotating parts in the thrustplates and bearings .
minor wear on the thrustplate will rotate around and then add , then subtract from the float number once each per orbit
im guessing that bit of gasket paper was 0015

i would aim for an 0.06 endfloat ( averaging the bump and the dip )

To my mind there is a bit of off centre in both the shaft and the line bore, when the runout lines up you get less float, when they are misaligned you get more float, would expect .03 is bugger all and not going to hurt in the long run.


Please help to keep Ausrotary a good resource, and report any spam or offensive posts with the report button.

12A 1300 and almost original 12A RX-4.
