Odometer light in FD suddenly goes out

#1 Post by Big Hugh Ness » Sun Aug 12, 2018 6:00 pm

Hey guys.
All of a damned sudden I get in the FD for a run and first thing I notice the odometer / trip meter light has gone dull on me. I mean, you can still see the odometer trip meter if you look real hard, and it still works but the bright illumination is no longer there.

A little history before this:
the only thing I did was pull the alternator out to have engine number confirmed for rego and then I put it back in again. I DID hear a bit of a fan belt whine the day the light went out, but might have been co incidence. I tightened belt and whine went away eventually. However the light is still off. Might not be related.

However, previous owner tells me there is something funny with the alarm system on the car and he tells me to disconnect the battery every night because he thinks the alarm is draining the battery.

I am wondering whether this is all pointing to the same thing: a bad earth somewhere?

It would be useful if this thing HAD a dimmer switch, but buggered if I know where it is.

If it was something suss, ALL your dash lights would be affected the same way (going dull), probably just a near dead bulb or not seated properly.

Yeah, I think you've right. Couldn't imagine this one light would be affected by a poor earth / not receiving enough power.

Undo the steering column clamp to make it easier.
