Dazz - Darren Baker has passed away

#1 Post by TheBorg » Tue Aug 21, 2018 9:11 am

Hi Everyone,

It's with a heavy heart I inform you, that Dazz passed away last night at 9.30pm from his long battle with motor neuron disease.

I'll keep you all updated with funeral details, should you wish to come and say goodbye and I like you all to use this thread to share photo's, memories and stories to rejoice Darren's life.

I thought I'd begin, I met Darren when we were both 17 years old. I'd had a 13B bridge port built by Road & Rotary and was offered a job by the owner Leon. Darren's mum Sandra was the secretary and I met Darren soon after I started as he would be in the workshop each day after school, even back then Darren's was beyond his years. He was in year 12, but you'd think he worked in the shop because he had so much knowledge.

Pretty soon Marty Heard, Paul Matheson and myself Mark Ford (who all worked at Road & Rotary) along with Darren were always talking cars, working on cars, or racing cars. I'll post more stories tonight and if you have any please share them.

Thanks Mark

Thank you Mark for sharing this very sad news.

Since the very beginning, Dazz has been one of the giants of AusRotary, contributing his vast technical and model knowledge, as well as volunteering his time as a moderator. Right up to very recently he continued to provide race reports, results and photos of RX-2s from historic racing meets, even as his health made it very difficult to do so.

RIP Dazz and thanks for everything. :(

RIP Dazz

I visit my grandparents in Germany sometimes, Got no speed limit on the highway there, no problem to go 125mph
Pretty strange to watch these car chases and they do speeding, and when I drive to my grandparents it's absolutely normal to drive over 120mph

Terribly sad. RIP Dazz. Someone who contributed so much to this website and the 'scene' in general. He always took the time to converse with me regarding circuit racing, build ideas, engine setups, interesting intake manifold ideas etc. He was clearly a much loved and valued person. My thoughts are with his close friends and family.

I only knew Dazz from these pages, one of the original old school members, always adding knowledge.

He will be missed greatly.
