NEW FEATURE: Post Like system!!!

At long last, we have successfully implemented a comprehensive post rating/like system. With casual readers and visitors vastly outnumbering frequent posters, it is not always apparent to users that others are reading, enjoying and grateful for their posts. If you are too shy to post and want to express your thanks, now you can!

Liking a post is easy - click this thumbs up in the top right hand corner of the post: Image

Can I encourage everyone to use this new feature enthusiastically and liberally and be sure to go back to your favourite old topics and like old posts. This will help build up useful user 'like' profiles and give credit to the users who has provided so much value to this community. This in turn helps guests and newcomers sort useful answers and posters from others.

This goes to regular forum lurkers especially - please show your appreciation with a 'like'!

Featuring:
  • Liked post counters in every user profile (given & received)
  • Liked post leaderboard accessible from the index and Quick Links Menu
  • Receive notifications when your post is liked, configurable from the User Control Panel (in forum notification and/or email notifications available or off)
  • You can remove a like if you made a mistake by clicking the undo button where the thumbs up used to sit (but the user will be notified)
  • Plus more

Old pics of 'SMIKRX'

#16 Post by JETTEC03 » Wed May 11, 2005 2:12 pm

G'day All,

A guy I went to tradeschool with in the mid 90's used to own 'SMIKRX', the same one that 'needarotornow' (Matt) is referring to... Was a really clean car when he had it. He bought it off the guy that 'built it' in the mag - but it came without the cage and the stereo system. The guy I knew only owned the car for a year or so, and when he went to sell it one of the 13bep housings was cracked and I think he sold it in this condition.

Turned out the original owner enjoyed dropping burnouts etc all the time!

Anyhow, here's a few pics that I took back then.

Cheers
Andrew

Yeah I really like this car, I was in one of the local newsagents looking for the best mag for rotors and for some very strange reason there was a copy of like a 1993-4 mag sitting there with my name on it.

It was the first issue of BEST ROTARIES, and its awesome, anyone know if there are anymore issues in it.

Has that article in it too.

Sorry to hijack but it made my day thats for sure.

Yeah, that's mine now.

Just to mention a few things since it came from Wagga(?) for those that may be interested. My brother went down to buy it (probably about '95 or a bit before?) and the engine had just started taking in water, suspected cracked housing. This brought the price down to $6k (try and do that these days for what was still a smickrx). One bottle of Wynns Stop Leak later, the Bridge Port ran for another 2 or so years, albeit using a lot of oil and fuel (51mm Weber on it).

ANyhow, since the only changes have been a s4 13bt, Microtech, 9" lsd and a couple of new clutches. It was originally set up very well suspension and brakes wise.

The poor girl is getting quite tatty in the body these days but is great mechanically. Don't worry though, it WILL be getting a full rebuild in a bit over a year. Gauranteed. The yellow and black colour scheme will be staying too. I think it's a great combo.

Yeop... Wagga is the word... the original creator, Carl Gibbs, is on this forum, his username is smikrk... I have a magazine from ~1994 with SmikRx being the feature car... it inspired the previous owner of my rx3 to buy an rx3... then the guy that he brought it off went and brought SmikRx... lol bizzare triangle....

So sitting here in a drunk/tired stupor in my garage looking at a bright yellow RX3 coupe.it just seems crazy that after an EPIC 1600km round trip and handing over a stack of bill I now not only a super clean RX3 coupe but also the 'SMIKRX' that I use to have stuck up on my wall as a kid....

Anyway I'm going to continue drinking looking at my best rotor purchase to date, and I'll only be improving on it!

First thing is to loose the disgraceful wheels as they make baby Jesus cry!!

Nice one! =D> It's great to see the car is still around and relatively similar looking to what it was back in the day... about 12 years later I see my post at the top of the second page. Time flies hey?!

PM me if you'd like me to email you the pics I originally put up... I also have the magazine feature scanned in pdf as well.
