#1 Post by Sachs Man » Thu Feb 21, 2019 2:17 pm

I was lucky to get some brand new sachs 303 engine parts, so will start collecting more parts to build the sachs 303 engine.

Thanks, no porting don't trust myself to do any porting work especially with these brand new housings, they are not easy to find.

I see, thats all good. those housings are rare to some degree especially if your not in a snow belt area where most of these engines ended up. those parts are 48+ years old. at first before i ported two of my engines i messed around with carbs and exhaust combos to see what i could do to make them put out more than the 20 hp they have stock at 5500 rpm. and it was not hard to get 6k rpm and better midrange with a 34mm tillotson HR carb.
i see these motors arounf me from time to time in sled junk yards. vintage snowmachines are a growing hobby and the wankels are growing in popularity. last summer i found a new yard with hundreds of old sleds and a few wankels. ill go back and see what i can get when all the snow melts. looks like you need the pto end plate and as you said an eccentric, entire stator set , the seals are hard to find but i do see them online for sale. a guy on ebay in the us has the end plate you need.
heres a pic of the yard i found this last year . the panther in the foreground had a 303 in it
cheers

Hi Ben,
wow that's a lot of sleds there :) I just purchase the stator set and the engine bolts from the seller i got the fan and magneto side plate from. I still need fan housing that will be a hard item to find without buying a complete motor and miscellaneous parts. I been looking at those new pto end plates would that plate match with this new housing i have :?:

Are yes i just purchase that E shaft that the seller i got the new parts for the KM24 engine just waiting for the shipping cost, i have the pto counter balance weight. I think it might be wise to use new seals on a new housing :?:
I'm in talks with a chap in Germany who have hundreds of new sachs wankel parts mostly for the KM48 engines, but also for the KM24 and 303s. He want to sell the whole lot so will see how i go.

That is the mother load for sure. ive heard for years about someone with a ton of sachs wankel parts but no one could ever prove it or show it. that is great you have all the parts you need and that lot of km 48-24 and 914 parts is amazing.
i agree one should always use new seals if possible, its just been hard to find them. is he asking a lot for the entire load ? seems like an investment that could be worth it depending

Not all the parts yet, the housing will be hard part to find. As for the price don't know yet he's english is not to good so he is using google translate which is not user friendly. His neighbour is Australian will see if he can help us out. I had a look at the Aixro XR-50 rotary engine in the parts list and they look the same as the sachs engines, i did get a price list for a full set of seals not cheap but you can get them.

Been patiently waiting for parts to arrive from overseas, these parts arrive today from Dart motor sport in the UK. they fit the sachs 303 rotor. I notice the corner springs are a heavier gauge spring and only one spring for each corner of the rotor. With the sachs engines they use a lighter gauge springs and two springs for each corner of the rotor the convex sides must be touching to ensure maximum spring compression. I have save well over $200 from buying from Dart motor sport compared to the Us sellers. :) :)

Nice. getting closer to all the parts. that crank / eccentric has the 25mm 1/10 taper. they also made a 30mm 1/10 taper with internal thread. i have both types on my engines. and there are two iginition types as well. the internal secondary coil like yours and an external secondary type with a lighting coil for 75 or 40 watts output, the external type was always used on sleds.
the pto or output side plate looks different than what ive seen. that extra casting for a cross shaft and deeper well for the bearing looks like it was made for a gear drive or something. never seen that variant before. pretty cool

Yep getting closer to start assembling the engine. Look likes the project will slow down for the moment, need to find starter drum and recoil starter or maybe can retrofit some other type of recoil starter :?: :?: Then i need fan housing. dowel tubes, ect, ect. I had a look in the parts manual the deeper well is for the tension ring assy . A photo of another PTO plate which is on the market there is a blind hole near center bearing hole.
