1st gen RX-7 OEM accessories brochure

#1 Post by KYPREO » Mon Apr 10, 2017 10:10 am

Over my 20 years of rotary enthusiasm, I've seen quite a few US dealer accessory brochures, often sold under "Mazda Finish Line". They come up on eBay fairly regularly. The US accessories are usually pretty funky and many of the products appear to have been developed specifically for the US market. Targa bands, rear louvres etc.

But never have I seen JDM or international market brochures from Mazda Japan, like this one I came across on social media. It has official Mazda part numbers and everything. Based on the photos of the Savanna GT-X, this appears to be a JDM catalogue.

I've got the mudflaps \:D/ , I've seen the wheel choices plenty of times before and I've seen a few cars with the arch and door protector strips (could have been aftermarket, but I remember a very original car I inspected back in the 1990s had them). I'd kill for those dark floor mats..and the "corner guide", which appears to be a rear parking sensor

Anyone else seen this catalogue before? Google Images brings up nothing. I also keep a close eye on Yahoo Auctions Japan and never seen something like this come up.

Here's some nice extracts for posterity.

Man I've never seen any of that stuff on aus-delivered cars. Aussie buyers must have been a bunch of cheapskates back then!
Thanks for sharing!

Nice find Greg. Love the roof rack. Disappointed there is no tow bar listed though!

It's a cool brochure - wish I could score an actual one for myself.

I have seen an RX-7 with a towbar in a shopping centre car park many many years ago - back when 1st gens were everywhere - a gold s2 from memory. Also had a bullbar up front! Can't imagine towing with a factory 12A would be much fun. In a bog standard 1st gen, you can barely maintain speed uphill without dropping down to 2nd gear.

I don't think many of these accessories ever made their way to Australian dealerships. Otherwise, surely some of this stuff would have popped up on AusRotary over the years. The only thing that has are the mudflaps - which only Japan, Australia and Europe appear to have gotten. Oh, and we got the twin pinstripes that were fitted to quite a number of cars (which was likely a dealer add-on), see: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=237880" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In my original post, I referred to funky US-specific OEM accessories. Here are some OEM floormats - they popped up on rx7club a while ago when a very very low mileage car was selling on eBay. They look a bit different to the ones in the brochure above, but still very cool.

There is a scan of US factory foglamps here:

I've also just collected this US stuff from eBay. The popular accessories in the US seem to have been the RX-7 logo carbra, louvres (of course) and targa band. The rear luggage blinds for 2 seat models are rare and highly sought after - of course, we got these standard fitted to the rear seats. The centre console arm rest would be awesome! If only one could turn back the clock and buy these cars new again.

It isn't really...

Although I wouldn't leave a poor defenceless RX-7 stuck in Frankston.

I love the specific car cover. I wonder if any of these parts are still available?

I found some photos of the elusive roof visors. Can't decide whether i like them. Im thinking not. Maybe it's due to the poxy SA22C to series 5 body conversion?

Im not sure what I'm looking at there - Some kind of Bat Ear thing coming of the window?

Come to think of it have any of you ever seen weather-shields for these cars? I love a good weather shield. They look daggy but they are so good.

Yep, they are a little visor that clips onto the drip sill moulding above the doors. Genuine OEM accessory.

I have seen proper RX7 weather shields (aftermarket) on eBay. I think Phil's has a side business or related business that does/did them. This was about 2 years ago. Can't see them now.

They sold for JPY20,500 (c. A$250), so maybe $400 once you add commission and shipping. Glad I didn't bid! They clip onto the drip moulds and mine are NOS parts, so no way I was going stick metal clips on to them.
