Hey Guys

Im finding it really difficult to decide what type of alarm I want.

-remote start
-immobilizer
-keyless entry
-boot release

(also putting a kill switch on the fuel pump)

would appreciate some help.

remote starts are illigal in australia sorry to say. awesome idea but its just a gay add on really.
in america a few people have died because of remote starts and it's careless owners. this is due to the owner pressing remote start and forgetting the car is in gear.

just any half decent alarm with 2 cut off points will do.
in terms of kill switches.... the best way i have seen it done is not by putting a actuall switch somewhere, it's most likely to be found.
use a relay and hook it up to something like headlights or rear window demister buttons/switches.

note: if your using it on a manual car there is no point to kill switch the starter motor so in saying that the fuel pump is a good idea which will mean that you'd have to drive with the dimmer lights on so that may be a con for ya !

good luck !

alarms are a waste of time.

get a gsm style tracker..

if the car does get pinched you have a better chance of getting the car back

I need a little convenience not that i ever drive my car now days.
who has a remote start here?
The one I want which seems dirt cheap for a 2 way with decent looking remote (which is what i have based my choice on)
http://www.zenesisalarms.com/zn502.htm
note all the one's on ebay seem like first gen blue screens.

I'm just trying to figure out if it has an imoboliser built in.
rang around some auto electricians won't install a remote start.
what would be the penalty seeming their deemed illegal?

the main problem is liability..

if you leave the car in gear and remote start. then claim on insurance

if insurance finds out you had it fitted. once you car was fixed. insurance company would go after the fitter (auto elec) for the cost of repairs. as it shouldnt be there in the first place as remote start is illegal.

and before you ask me no i wont fit it either.. sorry

to be honest just go a gsm style tracker alarm. much better bang for buck..

the only thing i can think of is for automatic cars...
use the park light (P) on your dash to trigger the starter relay.
this way remote start can only be triggered in the park gear which would be the only safe way.

maybe ???? :?

so on a manual you need little limit switches in every gear position so if a switch is activated it wont start.

massive job. especially with all the different gearbox combinations.

unless the box has a neutral switch of course.

most alarm places sell universal kits. once they start specialising is when it starts to cost alot more money to produce.

would it be asking too much for the remote too trigger a 3rd party immobiliser.
I'm going to have it done regardless of legality. currently talking to the manufacturers of the alarm I stated.

and find out whether it comes with something to stop the remote start if not in the correct gear or the hand brake isn't activated etc....

supposedly no keyless entry systems have an immobilisers intergrated.

surely you could just do it on the neutral, im not that knowledgeable as to where in the gear selector they would physically go, but im sure the switches / contacts would be fairly universal except for the actual mounting of them or as pointed out have 2 options;
hand brake sensor for manual
park sensor for auto

this is what i got from zenesis.
Yes, we do have a safety process for manual transmission vehicles. You must follow the Automatic Reservation Mode for Manual Transmission vehicles. It is as follows:

1) Hold down the foot brake pedal.
2) Engage the parking brake.
3) Continue to hold the foot brake pedal until the parking lights flash 1 time.
4) Let go of foot brake pedal and then turn key to the OFF position.
5) The engine will continue to run (so, the gear must be in neutral).
6) Close the last door, hood, trunk and the engine will turn OFF.
7) Arm the vehicle. If a door, hood, or trunk is opened from this point, you will not be able to remote start the car and the procedure must be followed again.
