On page 1 simon says that 0 gauge is 70mm, and that this should be used for starter cables but this was from the boot and is that size to help combat voltage drop. Im wondering what size cable should be used for a run of 500mm, i already have some 26mm cable and was wondering whether that would do the job. When i say 26mm i mean cross sectional area, not diameter, not sure of the conversion from mm squared to gauge. Cheers

hi mate,

yep to combate voltage drop.

its a system developed with a goal of having the key turned to start for less amount of time.

less turn time means less stress on starter and ignition key..

half a meter 2 gauge or 35mm equivalent

Hey Sim

Wheres the cheapest place to get yellow top batteries from ?

was looking at getting the D34 750 CCA and found them on Ebay for $349.00 plus $28.00 ship costs.

hi mate,

i can get them.. but for around the same price.

also guys a good idea is when you get a gell cell battery do a "leak down test" and do it to the letter and dont cut corners. its very dangerous if you rush it.

but this will ensure your battery will last longer as the distributors dont do them sometimes and it lessens the life of the battery.

ive had my battery since 1994 and its still going strong.

hi jason,

i think i got mixed up in terminoligy somehow!!

there is a test to do with the gel cells that reset them and makes them stronger. but it has to be followed to the letter or the can expand and destroy itself..

ill see if i cant find it

Sim i want to relocate the battery in the rx7 and have a couple of questions

1. after relocating the battery and mounting the through panel can i take the original positive terminal that has 2 wires going to it, one for starter and one into the loom and run a new starter cable to the through plug then extend the loom wire to the through plug also?

2. do i need 0 or 00 gauge wire as the cable wont be that long from the battery to through panel and is a 300amp cb too big?

hi mate,

1. you remove the original starter wire. new cable from through panel to the starter. then body supply need to run from either starter or through panel to main fuse box that sits near the original battery position (put a fuse at the new connection point to protect the cable running to the main fuse box.

2. minimum cable is 00 B&S gauge or 70mm cable. run a 250 amp circuit breaker. breaker can be sourced from here - http://www.qualitypowerauto.com/

i can supply cable or get 70mm stick welder multi strand cable from an electrical wholesaler..

Thanks for the reply sim
i ended up putting the battery in the engine bay(just had to mount it and a tray under the intake pipe) but noticed the fuel pump wires had no fuse on them so i fused them.
Cheers.

Hey guys

In the process of relocating my battery to the boot in my corolla.

I have done a bit of research but still not sure.

I have some 2B&S 32mm 255amp cable, would this be suitable for my application?

Car is a 1974 corolla with a 1983 ke70 1.3 4k engine, standard wiring harness and all.

No mods that would drain power.

I also need to figure out how I'm going to connect the old cable with the new cable.

I have been informed to use some sort of terminal block?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I also plan to use an optima battery as I'd like something decent. What one should I get.
